You’re invited to the newest hot spot in Bali. With popping colours, poolside cocktails and a serious summer vibe—this is Tropicola.
Brought to you by the team behind Motel Mexicola and Bondi’s The Bucket List, Tropicola brings a distinctly Bondi feel to Indonesia.
This fresh new beach club has it all, providing a relaxed atmosphere for long lazy days and fun, balmy nights; a mansion playground for locals and tourists alike. With food by Steve Skelly, you can expect a menu full of local delicacies teamed with flavours from around the world; from fresh seafood and sashimi to wood-roasted vegetables (and even pavlova for an Australian touch).
With our hometown of Bondi being so close to our hearts, we thought it would be a great opportunity to work together and fit out the Tropicola team with some new polarised Bailey Nelson shades; perfect for the bright Balinese sun. Read our interview with owner Nicolaza below and check out some photos of Tropicola—FOMO guaranteed.
What is Tropicola?
Tropicola is a ship on a voyage through the most fun-filled locations on earth, searching for the exotic dynamo of the global groove. We are dancers to the sound of the sun.
How is Tropicola different to other offerings in Bali? How is it different compared to Mexicola?
Tropicola is not defined by a specific nationality within its concept. Tropicola takes the elements, the sun, the water, the tropical weather and evokes a feeling. Compared to Mexicola? We definetely have the funship, the great vibe, the legend DNA and now the experience to create a concept with an international offer of food and beverages to the costumers, all in front of a paradisiac sunset scenario at the beach in great style!
Can you give us a brief history leading up to establishing Tropicola – interests, passions, pathways etc.?
While traveling, I always carried this sweet memories of incredible places, remembrances of beautiful experiences that I left behind… I wanted to bring this to life… bring this to my new home, Tropicola is what it felt like.
Who is the target audience?
Anyone that is looking to have a vibrant time, bliss memories under the sun. Tropicola is for real experiences, no time for siesta here!
Describe the atmosphere – are there live DJ’s? What is the style of music?
I first met Tropicola's resident DJ, Juan, In the early 80s. We worked together at the Hotel Deseo and Hotel Basico in Playa Del Carmen, in its booming time! he played private parties for the New York jet set and the coolest mansions. We are close friends and I’ve seen him play NYC clubs, tour on the Big Day Out as the after-party DJ for all the big acts and play sunset after sunset in Tulum for many years. I’m so excited he accepted my invitation to move to Bali and make this island his new home. I can only describe his music as the sound of paradise and 100% fun!
